Plants cannot be killed — hitting them with the spirit's body or movement abilities does not remove them. Stun them with an elemental ability shot, move through the open lane inside the stun window, and use two shots in quick succession on a one-way route. Ranged plants shoot back; approach from the side and step perpendicular to their line.

Why You Cannot Kill Mutant Plants
The mutants are part of the level furniture, not a wave to clear.
- Plants cannot be destroyed. Hitting them with the spirit's body or with movement abilities does not remove them from the room.
- Plants cannot be killed. The game has no combat system in the usual sense.
- The developer's stated approach is to neutralise them temporarily, not to clear them out of the level.
The practical impact is that any room you go through, you go through with the plant still there. Plan around the plant, not against it.
Stun Plants With an Elemental Shot
Pick the moment the plant is at a known position
Pick the moment when the plant is at a known position — at one end of its patrol or pausing at a marker.
Aim with the right stick and release to fire
Aim the ability shot with the right stick and release to fire (the same flick-to-fire mechanic described on the Spirit Abilities page).
Move through the open lane before the stun expires
Move through the open lane before the stun window closes.
Re-fire rather than walk past
The stun window is temporary — a stunned plant reverts and starts moving again, so on a narrow ledge or a one-way route you keep firing rather than stun once and walk through. Two shots in quick succession is the common pattern when a plant is gating the only path forward.
Done when: You are through the lane with the plant already moving again behind you.
Pick the spirit for the shot
The element on the shot does not change the stun — what matters is the hit, so any spirit will do. Spirit Abilities covers which pairing covers the most ground if you want a default.
Wait Out Patrol Lanes
Ground patrols
Move back and forth on a straight line or a loop. When the plant reaches the far end of the patrol, the near lane is open.
Aerial patrols
Fly along a fixed arc. The window is the part of the arc that does not cover the route you want.
Pause markers
Spots where a plant stops and turns. Each pause opens the lane at the opposite end of the route.
Dealing With Ranged Plants
Identify the projectile line
Identify the line the ranged plant fires down before you commit to the route.
Approach from the side
Approach from the side of the line, not along it.
Step perpendicular through the gap
Move through the gap perpendicular to the line so the projectile passes behind you.
FAQ
What is this site?
It is an unofficial, English-language guide hub for Fire and Water: Spirits of the Forest on Steam. It collects the mechanics, puzzle rules, crystal routes, enemy patterns, level structure, and co-op setup for the game in one place, so you can find the answer for the room you are stuck in without reading a whole forum thread.
